The HX Big Think is an invitation-only event that will focus on uniting advocates and changemakers who together can ideate, prioritize, and collaborate on the actions that you and the HX Project can activate to make our online lives more human. Our two days together will be engaging, interactive, and will empower you to bring your lived and professional experiences to the room. Â
HX, short for Human Experience, was launched in October 2021 to better understand our relationships with technology. HX is an approach to talking about, engaging with, and designing technology to be more aligned with our needs as humans — not users. We aren’t the first to identify this opportunity to create a better HX. You and each one of the nominees invited to participate in the Big Think are building awareness of the agency we have in our interactions with technology and demanding better, healthier, and more inclusive products from tech companies. HX is the connective tissue, the catalyst, the megaphone for your work.
After a year-long collaboration between Pivotal Ventures, Susan Crown Exchange, Aspen Institute, All Tech is Human, Data & Society, Headstream, Harvard, the University of California Irvine’s Connected Learning Lab, and a team of diverse youth, which kickstarted HX, the Big Think is the launch of our next phase.

A Big Think is a workshop model, designed by the innovation agency SecondMuse, which centers a community of diverse practitioners as the interrogators of systems challenges and as the co-creators of solutions to those complex challenges. We will come to the Big Think with ideas for how HX can transform technology to meet our needs, and how HX can illuminate our agency in creating healthier individual relationships with tech. The Big Think is the launching pad for the next phase of the HX Project. We will leave with a co-owned plan and actionable steps for advancing HX. Together equipped with new collaboration opportunities and the resources for co-creation. The two days will be filled with inspiration, co-creation, collaboration, and community building. Come prepared to be hands-on as we design the role of HX in guiding us toward a better, more inclusive digital future.Â
The Monday Welcome Dinner is optional but we ask that all attendees commit to attending the full two days of workshops on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will wrap up by 3PM on Wednesday
By creating a common social narrative on the leading edge of these issues, we can improve our individual relationships with tech and collectively help better shape future technologies for all of us. Even before the pandemic, technology had a huge impact on our overall wellbeing. Now, as we are more reliant on tech than ever before, we need to prioritize our human experience. By spurring innovation and building coalitions around the shared HX narrative, we can use HX to shape a better, more equitable human experience for all.
YOUR ROLE AND VALUE OF YOUR PARTICIPATION
We’re at a crossroads in our collective relationship to technology and now is the moment to create real change. You’ve been nominated to attend the Big Think because your work is an integral part of how we can imagine and design our future digital experiences to meet our human needs. We’ve created HX as a universal language and a field that can facilitate and support the changemakers radically shifting current unjust systems. Our goal is to understand how your work integrates into HX, fill the space with new collaborators, and provide resources to support the advancement of the community of HX practitioners and initiatives.
HX is an emerging field that brings together those who create, design, produce, and experience life online to help build a healthier digital world. The dozen founding partner organizations of the HX Project nominated 40 individuals who we believe are critical stakeholders to furthering the mission of HX. Those nominees came from the following fields with a specific focus on equity and centering young people.
